Mixing RAM

Go to solution Solved by QueenDemetria,

Hi.

I built my system around January this year.

I thought 8GBs of ram (Kingston ValueRAM 1600MHz) was enough and it was!

Now, when I try to play BF4, Windows tells me that I have run out of memory and BF4 crashes, along with Chrome.

So now I'm thinking of getting another stick of the same RAM to add into my system but I read that mixing RAMs that are not in a kit may cause issues.

I need advice!

Thanks! :D

As long as the timings are the same you will be fine. You will want to find a stick that has an equal speed/mhz or faster(note: if you buy a stick that is faster, it will run at the speed of your slowest stick.).

Why don't you get the same RAM?

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Sounds like you may be experiencing a memory leak. I could be very wrong, however.

i5 2500k+Noctua NH-D14 - 8GB HyperX Blu - 240GB PNY XLR8 - Sapphire Reference 7970 - P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3 - OCZ ZX 850W

8GB should be more than enough for BF4 - check your background processes and such, since there's likely to be a problem. If you fix the problem, you might not need more RAM.

Otherwise, as long as the timings and the speed remain the same, I don't see how you'll have any problems.

Remember to be a good citizen and choose a 'best answer' when your problem has been resolved!

(that way people know when a problem's been resolved)

I dont think buying another stick of ram is gonna solve your issue since 8GB should be enough. The problem must be somwhere else maybe reinstall the game see if that helps.

I might be... My system uses around 5GB with my start-up programs and Chrome

Thats definitely too much.. what programs are running - check the taskmanager to see if its one thing in particular that eats all the ram (maybe post a screenshot)

Kind of like running a 7970 in crossfirex with a 7950.

In windows 8 you can set which programs open at start up and that helps a little bit, also disable your chrome extensions when you aren't using them.

Main PC:

ASUS F1A55-M LX, AMD A6-3500, (2x2)gb Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 1600mhz, Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200rpm,
Corsair CX430M, Cooler Master Elite 343, Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Netbook:

Lenovo Ideapad S10-2, Intel Atom N280, (1x1)gb DDR2 667mhz, WD Scorpio Blue 250gb 5400rpm, Zorin OS 9 Lite
