iPhone 6 HELP!

Go to solution Solved by jayctech,

Started spamming a refresh icon where "Groups" is at the top of contacts. This eventually gave a prompt for his Outlook password which upon entering fixed everything.

The contacts on my dad's iPhone 6 just vanished all of a sudden earlier today. I checked on his cloud and they're gone from there too. When I connected to iTunes it said there was a backup from yesterday that I could restore from but when I clicked on it, a window popped up saying I had to turn off Find my iPhone, which I did, but after doing so clicking on restore backup wasn't doing anything so I restarted iTunes, however when I got back the button for restore backup was faded out (couldn't click on it).

Oh and he didn't have an OS update. He's still running iOS 8.0.

Help plz!!!

EDIT:

Possible solution - if I could get the contacts from my dad's old 4s to sync across. This'll get around 90% of the contacts back. Problem is - for whatever reason I get a verification error whenever the 4s tries to connect to the iCloud and I don't know where the contacts sync to on Windows when doing a contact sync on iTunes (I don't use iOS myself and after this ordeal will never consider it).

So a solution to either the verification error or an explanation on how to go about syncing the contacts through iTunes would be a possible workaround.

You made a big mistake, you bought an iPhone. Joking, I have no idea, are you sure the phone is detected when the button is faded?

Yes - the button can only be accessed if the phone is detected. Right next to the button there's another that allows for a manual backup - this button was clickable before (when the restore button was too) and after (when the restore button wasn't) iTunes was restarted.

Did he do anything stranger than usual? On Android devices (presumably same for apple) you can save contacts to the sim card or storage, maybe he switched cards or accidentally deleted contact files?

Desktop: i7-4790k, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 3TB, 2xR9 290 Vapor-X's (1 working atm), Asus Z97-Pro, NZXT H440 White, 16GB G. Skill Sniper RAM, NZXT HALE V90 850W.

Laptop: Samsung Chromebook 11.6"

Phone: 8GB Galaxy S4

did he happen to use a non apple device on the same sim before ? if so he may be able to get some back if there is any on there through importing them  settings > mail contacts calender > import contacts from sim. if not then there probably gone unfortunatly

He remembers seeing he had a missed call from someone (and their name was shown in the call history) then he gets it out to show me something (several hours later) and suddenly every contact in his phone directory is gone and in both call history and texts only the numbers are shown - no names.

No, the sim came from his old iPhone 4s but he got the 6 on release day and it's now November so he's been using the 6 for a month and a half or so.

Its only faded because you already restored it to a previous date and no longer have any previous backups to go to

If that were true I'm pretty sure that:

  1.  the phone would have turned itself off and shown some indication it was wiping itself and restoring
  2.  the issue would be solved since all his contacts were there yesterday

Try logging out of itunes on your pc and log back in and sync with your phone as see what happens
