hey guys, thanks for clicking on this post! :)

first off, I'm sorry for my bad english (not first language).

with that said i have a problem.

i think i made the biggest mistake you can make.....

so my new rig was turned on and my fan controller by bitfenix was not working, so i took the back panel off and took the molex cable from the fan controller and unplugged it while the computer was on!!! i know big mistake!!!! i plugged it back in and there came a spark and my pc rebooted and there came a smell. i could not see the smoke and I'm not sure if it was, from the power supply (corsair ax850) the computer worked fine after and i decided to shut it down. haven't turned it on since......

i know i made a big mistake. but please help, what is my next step. do i turn my pc on and test my component in some way. if, please tell me how to test if all my components are working correctly.

or should i buy a new PSU.

all comments are very appreciated :)

thanks dosric

ps. i could not find a directory this could fit in.

I am guessing that it was the fan controller that died and not the PSU... it's not that easy to kill PSU, unplug the fan controller and turn it on. Or if you are scared, you should not be but still if, take the fan controller off to a service just to test it. It should be free to just test it and mae sure that the fan controller is the one that died.

I am sure there was slim to none chance that anything else was broken. High end PSU have very good protection....

No there is no software. If motherboard is dead your PC wont start. Put if your beeper is connected on MB it will point you to bad RAM, CPU or even HDD by making different beeps... If everything is ok there should only be just one beep.... or maybe your MB has that LED code for errors so check the code and google it :D but if everything starts properly its ok :D

make sure you test that fancont. beacause I think it was dead before the spark :/

I think nothing died. When you plugged your cable back in, the power supply simply turned off for safety. What you smelled could be Ozone, that was emerged by the spark.

But do what baxter.rs said to test if the fan controller is broken.

I hope i could help :)

thanks for the comment! :)
