I just saw this pop up in my notifications

For all you newbs and '14ers

A long time ago, in a forum last year, before there were love potion specialists and baba ji everywhere, there was kitchen spam. Lots and lots of kitchen spam. This made it so this wasn't a tech forum anymore, it was a place where you could go to buy kitchens. The kitchens were mainly sold in the UK. They would post every day and of course, people would report them and they would get taken down relatively quickly. Everyday of my life in 2013, I waited for them. I laid in bed thinking about them. "Would they post spam today?" "How much, if any spam will they post today?" "What will I report of theirs today?" This went on for a while until they kind of disappeared. We then had this spam free time on the forum before baba ji came around with his love potion specialists. Their spam would contain pictures and lead you to an external site. This was advertising, which was against the CoC, which lead many to report it. Advertising is against the CoC? You should have read the CoC and you would have known that already.

Any sort of advertisement on Linus Tech Tips that has little or no relation to Linus Media Group, or is not affiliated with Linus Media Group in any way will be considered spam and removed from the boards. This also pertains to signatures and/or profile information.



This includes but is not limited to doing a giveaway on the forums while linking/referring to outside accounts(YouTube, Facebook, etc.) in any way shape or form.

In addition to advertising, you may not sell any item via the forums other then through the Classifieds section nor advertise links to third party personal sale sites (eBay, Kijiji, etc.) where you might be selling your item.



Links in the Hot Deals section to items being sold directly by the manufacturer or distributor, such as Razor, Dell, Amazon, Best Buy, etc., are allowed, but only in this section.

Surprisingly enough, they posted their kitchens before the hot deals subforum existed. So they never posted how good the deals were on their kitchens in the hot deals subforum. It was usually in general discussion, which gave them post count, but was actually post farming.

 

edit - never realized how many recognizable members on this forum were actually '14ers

Why do these spambots target LTT? Its not like any of us are going to view or buy any of the shit they advertise.

I have a feeling the kitchen spambots are probably all from the same person (or small group of people) who is just trolling us. And to be fair it is mildly amusing to see all the broken English kitchen advertisements pop up all the time.
