New build! Opinions?

Go to solution Solved by pinksnowmanshandle,

hybrid crossfire is terrible for the money. in the same price you can get the cpu found in the APU the athlon x4 860k and a r9 270 which literally destroys hybrid crossfire. and on fm2 you are stuck with weak athlons so no upgrade path.so even for low end intel is a better pick( the pentium g3258 ).i wrote this just so you can recommend better parts in the future

Well since you seemed to focused on all the negatives.

I did modify that build for Intel. I was going to use an i3 but from further searching I found that maybe it wouldn't be the best idea. If AMD used FM2(+) for Zen getting an APU now would be a brilliant investment for whatever your going to use it for, sure right now AMD isn't that great but Zen is promising. And the dual graphics thing is kind of helpful. Okay sure it doesn't get 90+ fps but 70 to 80 fps is better than consoles so for gamers on a budget I think an APU is a fine option (maybe not the best but certainly the cheapest).

I'm starting a new build for a friend. I was wondering what you guys' opinions were of this build? What are things you would change? The budget is around $2,000 USD.

Yes, I was thinking of an SSD as well but he would like to keep the price as low as possible. I should clarify, the maximum he would spend is 2k if necessary.

You lose massive points for no SSD. Massive.

If you're not going to overclock there's absolutely no reason to have a liquid cooler, and you can get a cheaper H series board.

Why are you spending that much on a WD Blue? It should be $30 cheaper.

There are much better PSU's for the money. EVGA.

Does he really need an optical drive?
I'd also get a better mouse.

I would say drop the RGB keyboard, get something  cheaper such as a cherry and put the money saved towards a larger or better monitor. And like many others have said, in these days a SSD is a must have for any computer of that price.

Wouldn't 8gb of ram be sufficient?

Sure but $2000 is a nice budget so you have the option

He wants to stay around or below $1500. However, the budget is flexible and he told me he could spend more if necessary. I like your list though. I'll probably make minor changes to that and use it. Thanks.

Some may say ewww AMD but really it's sufficient and cheaper. (I am excluding the monitor just because that's not my expertise, and the R7 250X can be used along side the onboard R7 and the reason for the extra ram is so that like 4GB could be given to the onboard gpu. Haha, it's a crucial part! ;)

Yes. He wants an optical drive. I'm not too sure the reasons though.

I'd just get a USB one. Then when he realizes how little he uses it it's easier to sell ;)

Here's what I'd do. It's a little on the higher end but gives you 480gb of SSD storage, still have the 1tb for regular storage, and I didn't change most of your peripherals but I'd consider a better monitor.
