Power over optical

Can the optical audio in on my Audionegone D1 power the unit? Or can it only be powered by USB?

Optical is just beams of light. Not electrical signals passed over a copper wire. You can't power anything over an optical cable.

Light carries photons, and with an intense laser it is possible to absorb the photons with a receptor and convert them into energy.

So yes it is possible to transmit electricity though light.

 

But though an optical audio cable obviously not :P

Yea I've seen power over optical experiments years ago. Thought it might have been mainstream by now. I'll just stick to audio over USB
