Is the SupremeFX worth it?

Zambonie

Hello, for my build coming up, I am getting an Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard. If you already don't know, it comes with a pre-installed sound card called the SupremeFX. Now my question is, should I buy a dedicated sound card, or is the SupremeFX fine on its own? And if a dedicated sound card is better, mind suggesting one? Here's my taste in sound to help suggest a sound card: I will be listening to a lot of music, I really don't care about gaming audio quality as much as I do to music quality, though it still would be pretty decent to have a simply good sound from the game.

Thanks, Zambonie

Its not worth getting a dedicated sound cards with todays high end motherboards. They go to great length to islolate the traces from as much EMI as possible to give you the best sound. Sometimes buying an external Soundcard can give you worse sound than internal..

On new boards on-board sound is pretty amazing.

You only need a dedicated soundcard if you have terrible interference problems, are using a really old mobo or need the extra functionality that some high end professional sound cards come with ( like break out boxes, lag-less midi interfaces)

For your needs on-board is fine. If you are using some really nice headphones a DAC could be an idea.

Ok, thanks.

I'll keep the SupremeFX, thanks.
