You'll need to run it through a modem first, but yes, this is possible. This will mean, however that no other devices in your home will have an internet connection. The best option would be to run the line out of a router into your PC

Most likely, yes. Something like powerline might be a viable option for you, however.

You can get an internet connection out of your wall and you have a couple ways to do it.

1. Move your existing Modem to where your computer will be. Run your phone line (for DSL) or Cable (for cable) from the wall to the modem, then run ethernet from the modem to a router, then from the router to the computer. Some modems also act as both a modem and a router, depends on the model you have.

2. Get a powerline ethernet kit and see how it works for you, your mileage may vary here, but they have gotten pretty decent as of late.

3. Wire your house with ethernet. Like run ethernet through the walls, and have ethernet outlets around the house, or at least in the room you want your computer in. The other end of these outlets should go to a router or a switch. This can be a pain in the butt, especially if your not the handyman type, but its amazing once you have it set up.

I think there may be some confusion about your existing setup.

Do you already have an ethernet plug wired into the wall? If so, where does the plug go? Inside the wall it will be wired on one end to that port in the room, and the other end must be somewhere else in your house. Might be an electrical box, or a switch panel, or it might just be a lose wire coming out of the wall in your basement or something.

If your house is wired for ethernet already, then you need to plug the OTHER end of the cable into your modem/router/switch. Depending on where your Modem normally lives, compared to where this "patch cable" drop is located, you may need to move the modem, or put a switch at the cable drop, and then run one long cable from the switch to your modem.

Otherwise, if your house is NOT already wired, then you could run the cable through the wall yourself. Or run it through the ceiling or along the bottom of the walls on the floor. No matter what though, ethernet is going to be a better solution then wireless, in terms of performance and stability.

ok so my modem is upstairs and i cant move it and my pc will be downstairs can i pull Ethernet strait out of the wall or not?

If you want a full gigabit ethernet connection yes you can install a cable that runs from upstairs to downstairs that just all depends on how much work you want to do, as said by @Semper the powerline is an easier option with less hassle. If you plan to install teh cable and have drywall you need to get some fish tape and a drill and cut soem holes in the wall to bring the cable down to your computer.

If there is an existing ethernet jack that runs from you upstairs modem to the downstairs you can use that as long as the exisitng cable is atleast a CAT5e cable and under 100M long, to get a full gigabit ethernet connection.

Yes. You can cut a whole in the wall in the room with the modem, run the CAT5 or CAT6 cable through the wall to where your PC is, cut another whole (Well, cut both holes first before running any wire), and pull the ethernet cable out and plug into your PC.

You can even do a step further, installing Keystone wall jacks on both ends of the wall cable. This will mean you have a single cable running through the wall, and either end is connected to a wall-plate with an RJ-45 ethernet jack. You then take short patch cables, and connect one end from the wall to your Modem, and the other end from the wall to your PC.
