Do school computers make you want to Die

Bit8xPr0

Various rundown of my school's PC's.

The library - hunks of crap everywhere. Ancient HP's running pirated versions of Windows 7. Some have 512 MB of RAM rather than 1 because people have gotten smart and stolen a DIMM from the computers.

Computer science - less bad. Core 2 Duo's, 4GB RAM, 7200 RPM hard drives (but they have like 150GB storage). Really not bad. They're also hooked up to some 1080p HP monitors that I can't say are worse than the square boxes in the library (as well as the 2 or 3 labs scattered around the school).

Computer science teacher's beast PC - Watercooled FX 8350 OC'd to 4.4, 8GB of RAM, 2 SSD's, 2 TB of extra storage, GTX 760, all wrapped up in a Corsair 600T and hooked up to a projector as a monitor. Beast.

Design departments - 27 inch iMacs for the Photoshop crew (brand new-ish) and 21 inchers for the rest of the design departments. Not bad at all.

Teachers - all have the Dell Chromebook with 4GB RAM so it aint bad either.

There's a couple random labs with HP boxes with 4GB RAM and Pentiums that aren't too bad.

It's a really mixed bag.

OMFG SCIENCE TEACHER IS MAZE

Very much so. Even Ubuntu has problems running on the computers in the lobby, and the keyboards and monitors there make me want to cry.

Do I need to tell the story about my friend force feeding a school pc crackers via the CD drive yet again?

Of course they do, they're shit.

My school has some horrible Intel Core2Duo or Pentium with 2Gb of Ram =_=

Although now they start to have more and more Lenovo computers with Haswell chips and really (really) low end GPUs for teacher comps

It annoys me on the latter how they do not bother using DVI with their monitors and use instead a VGA adaptor >.>

CPU: A10-5800K, GPU: 7660D, RAM: Corsair XMS3 2x 4GB 1600Mhz, PSU: Rosewill Stallion series RD500-2SB 500W, Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35, HDD: WD 10EZEX 1TB Blue, Case: Rosewill Line-M mAtx

Ancient  low-end HP computers with only like 2GB ram and a Slow Centrino, Pentium, V pro, or Core 2 duo (From like 2008-2010 maybe?)

Dont even know what they are running, they restrict nearly everything and yet I managed to find 3 hentai and porn sites that were not blocked (2 were hentai, one was porn. I turned safesearch off).

Anyways they load windows 7 enterprise on these things that are meant to run XP or Windows 7 Basic/Starter

They put 7 on a Vista laptop and it runs like crap, and our school also has these Cheap chromebooks that they claim cost 300$ when they are really just 150$ crappy samsung chromebooks.

My French teacher was annoyed that it was such a pain to use Accents on chromebooks and that you cant use ALT Codes. I explained to her that it only works on Windows, and maybe if the chromebook had a numpad it might work.

Also some of the PC's cases arent even locked in place, and you can see the inside because its halfway open on some of them. One time I went to close the cases and I almost got in shit for touching them.

Also some slow kid shoved a 3.5mm headphone jack into a USB port on one of the PC's and surged the mobo, PC works fine but the headphone and microphone jacks are dead and 1 USB port is too. That kid also tried it on a different PC because he thought it wasnt working on that one, That PC survived with only a malfunctioning front USB port.

Keyboards are discusting, they have pieces of paper clip, pencil leads, crumbs, lint, staples etc. And in one of them there is a Ink cartridge for a pen stuck inside of it.

My school have old Dell's, I think with about 4GB of RAM and old crappy AMD CPUs. Some part of my school started getting new Lenovo computers, they are actually pretty good, Intel i7's, using the included HD 4600's graphics in them.
Today though we had a Relay for life event, in the computer lab, they got minecraft on the Dells, surprised to see it actually worked at ~60 FPS.

Intel i5-6600k (Cooled by a 212 evo) - Asus Z170-A - Asus Dual OC GTX 1060 - NZXT S340 - WD 1TB (Getting SSD this month, hopefully) - 8GB DDR4-2400

LG G4 - Asus Zenwatch 2

Yes and No. I'm in a secondary school, and the All in Ones lenovo computers are pretty decent, with i5s and 8gb of ram. But the netbook we have to use are soooo bad. I have the first gen netbooks, and they have an AMD E-450 APU, which is slow as ballz. It takes forever to load up anything, and yet, they expect us to use the whole adobe creative suite on it. Luckily, for next year, i dont really have any subjects that needs the netbook, its all maths and sciences. I usually work on my desktop with all my work loaded up on dropbox and sync to my netbook, so its managable

How many computer programmers does it take to change a light bulb?

None, that's a hardware problem.  :D

no. Quite the opposite.

They make me want to live so that I can then CAST THEM INTO THE FIRE!

...after stealing all the networking cards, of course...

Or I could convert one of them into a router and replace the shit that they use at the school...

In our school, every student has their own laptop (MacBook....yes...deal with it). Mine is in my sig, I personally love it for many reasons. Sure, it is not a gaming desktop, but whatever. What really annoys me tho is our school IT and all the noobs that constantly need help (Mac OSX is THE easiest OS to deal with!).

So yes, the only thing I need now for 2015/16 is an Alienware Graphics Amplifier-like box that uses Thunderbolt and is reasonably priced. Star Citizen here I come!

The computers themselves are good enough....HP Z400 (Quad core Xeon workstations iirc); the thing that sucks about them is the extra shitty HP-membrane keyboards...Every time I have to do work on them I get more and more tempted to bring my K70 with me.

Our computers have first generation Intel i3's running at 1.3 Ghz, with 4gb of ram and a 300gb HDD. Surprisingly enough it isn't that lagy and I can browse the internet and watch videos with ease. Also I found out inside the laptop there is a unused msata slot, so I might install an SSD.

We're using 3770's and 2500K's with 8GBs of ram to run multiple virtual machines (Win7, Win8.1, WinServer 2008) from an external usb(!) hdd. Needless to say, performance isn't the best. But 40+ Mbps up and downstream on the internet connection, which is nice.

btw I use arch

Old School: Dell xp laptops took 5 mins to boot up then 5 mins to log you in! :( Then they got an ICT room with vista computers and downgraded them all to xp - were pretty much as slow as the laptops.

New School: HP EVERYWHERE until a month ago now hp almost everywhere. The tiny ones that fit on the back of monitor. Pretty much everything has at least hp i3's 3/4 gen and they even replaced a roomful of i3 hp desktops with some unheard of brand with i5 3/4 gen!

I've got a laptop to myself...

And it's fairly decent, Lenovo L440, has a 120GB SSD, though only a very small portion is usable because C: is not visible, and it has a 4200 in it, with some standard 2x4Gb 1333Mhz CL11 RAM.

The desktops are a completely different story though...

There are 2 PC labs I work in at university. In the first, every PC has an i7 3770 and 8GB of RAM with a GTX 460 (we use the crazy CPU power to drive our horrendously-inefficient beginner-level programming...).

In the second lab, which is a video editing lab, every PC has an i7 4770 and 16GB of RAM with Quadro K500s. Oh, and each PC is hooked up to a Dell Ultrasharp 1440p monitor.
