HTPC gpu

I plan on building a HTPC and the first thing I though of when it came to GPU was the Sapphire R7 250 ultimate would that be a good idea. If not what would be a good alternative?

I am more wondering if the passive cooler would work but if not definitely a 750.

It's an HTPC. If you're not using it as a game machine then integrated graphics will do, and it doesn't have to be an APU. They are better iGPUs and have Dual Graphics capability, but in an cheap HTPC it won't matter if it's Intel HD Graphics either.

Desktop: Intel Core i5 2380P (2400 w/o iGPU), MSI H61, 8GB RAM, 256GB SP610, 500GB WD Blue, HIS R9 280, Antec TruePower Classic 550W, Inwin MANA 134, QNIX QX2710, CM QuickFire Rapid, Logitech G402

 

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L40D, AMD A6-6310, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon R4 Graphics, 14" 1366x768

 

 

Phone: iPhone 6 Space Gray 64GB, T-Mobile $60/mo 3GB plan

What about 4k?

The integrated graphics in both Kaveri APUs and Haswell CPUs are designed to handle 4K HTPC use.

You have a few options. High end AMD apu, GTX 750/750ti, R7 250/250X.

Whatever fits in your price range.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 4GHz @ 1.3 volts | CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO | RAM: 8GB DDR3

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P | GPU: EVGA GTX 960 SSC | SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO

Maybe a 7770 or even a 6850?

I put a GTX750Ti in mine so I can GameStream from my main rig, something worth considering if you have a powerful Nvidia GPU PC in the house.

 

If not the APU approach is probably the best recommendation.
