fps drops on BF4 mantle

pixeldensity

So I have a 7870 2gb and when I play in bf4 using mantle I get bad fps drops to the point where it freezes for a while. I have a custom video settings on but the settings are mostly around high. Does anyone else have this problem or know a fix to it?

I had a 7870xt on high and I was on 60 fps stable on high settings (Minor OC and terrain detail to medium) so I do not know why you have this issue. Might be CPU being tanked by BF4.

Did it run fine previously? If not, you might want to consider a CPU upgrade (and motherboard)

Mantle should improve things, especially for you with a fairly weak CPU. Monitor your memory usage when playing BF4, it might be a memory leak. Even with 8GB of RAM and 4GB of VRAM I can't play longer than 30 minutes with mantle because my memory just fills up and the game starts to chug, stutter and freeze. If it's a memory leak then there's not a whole lot you can do, both DICE/EA and AMD know that there are issues, but none of them are actually working on a fix AFAIK.

Have you tried changing drivers? Like Nohrellas saidt, there is a pretty prominent VRAM leak with mantle. The longer I play, the higher up it goes. For me, it will start around 3 GB used and just climb from there. While I haven't used more than the 290 has, I don't play multiple rounds in a row. I could see it being a problem on cards with less memory. As everything keeps getting updated, it SEEMS like the leak is getting slower.... but since I never get to the point where the game starts skipping, I don't pay attention to it.
