Issues with facetime on my Mac

Yes, its an apple device. No, I don't care how "shitty" it is. 

 

Now, back on topic.... Does anyone know why the other person will frequently cut out? Could it be when the tone of voice changes in a certain way, or maybe the noise cancellation to stop feedback is too sensitive (like it can hear something very quiet and then mute the incoming sound since it thinks I'm trying to talk)....

What peripherals are you using while this happens? Hows your internet connection? Can you use cam software that isn't face time like skype to make video calls without the same issue (not suggesting this as a fix but to help diagnose)

Connection is good,  I don't remember if I had the issue with skype; but I think I did.

I can only imagine it being a possibly bad connection from either end. Can't imagine anything else.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Are you using wifi or wired? Which model do you have and what year? Can you do a quick speedtest.net test and post the results? Facetime and Skype are pretty big bandwidth hogs and don't particularly optimize their data well for streaming so even if your connection is good for gaming, it might not be great for voice chatting.

Side note: I have a PC and a Mac book and an Imac (both apple products were freebies and i never use the Imac :P) and while i prefer Windows, I have been using my Mac book for fairly heavy use and only miss about 30 features. But it works.

Well, I can tell you it has nothing to do with the connection, because when the air conditioning comes on (which is noticeably loud--the volume up noise on my mac at full volume is just barely audible) I can't hear anything the other person says. My guess is that Facetime hears the noise and thinks I'm talking and therefore cuts off the incoming audio in order to avoid feedback. 

 

So, any idea if theres a way to override Facetime from cutting the audio?
