I have an AMD 6350 clocked at 3.9GHz  It's an OK CPU but I see clearly with some games, Assassin's creed, Watch dogs, Skyrim. It chunks horribly.

I know I need to get an i5 but for now being broke from birthday summer (4 birthdays in july alone)

I want to know if I should OC my CPU and How beneficial will it be? I currently have a 970 so I know my GPU isn't making me get 23FPS in AC4.

Also my MB is an OEM HP Angelica 2 from Gigabyte. Can I even OC if I wanted to?

Let me know if you need more info Thanks guys! =)

If you want to OC then do it, I don't know if it'll make a vast improvement but it will be an improvement at least.

If you have decent cooling I'd go for it. I don't think you can over clock from the bios, but you should be able to from CCC or AMD Overdrive.

I would say yes, simply because unless you don't want to overclock because that can decrease its resale value, or if you have temperature problems, there is no large downside to overclocking and it will definitely help with performance, now as to if you even can OC I would assume so but I can't say for sure.

I think the CPU heatsink cooler is a CM 212 Plus the fan on it is an 80mm compared to the EVO's 120mm.

Any idea what a good temp is? Currently I have 4 fans + CPU heatsink. 2 on top blowing clean air down, 1 in back as exhaust, 1 in front as intake for HDDs. the PSU has it's own intake fan slot in the bottom.

Um if you are hanging around 45-55 C at a moderate to high load then you're fine to overclock, just make sure under heavy load you don't pop past 70-72, but judging by your cooling you have you shouldn't have a problem with the cooling.

If you need a program to check temps I suggest getting speccy (its freeeee) https://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

I try to never go past 50C at idle on desktops because it makes me have a little panic attack. If you have 4 or more cores though (you do) the first two (or 4 if you're above 4 cores) cores will be much hotter from my experience. My Core 2 Quad has 54 C stuck on first two cores then the other two vary quite a bit. Last two are 37C at idle.

On a 212 Plus, you'll be fine until the fan's out. Two years on sleeve bearings usually.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

@Ariona can you do some benchmarks with Unigine"s Heaven or Valley, keep track of temps with HWmonitor, use cpu-z to check other stuff. and update your mobo bios if there is one. Your specs are not that bad, it should perform better imo.

Forgive me El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education...

I ran some benchmarks Cinebench and my CPU clocked out temp wise with the first 2 cores the hottest at 46c the 3-4 averaging 37c and the final 2 cores not really being used by set at 27-31c

Yeah you are good then go ahead and overclock cooler temps are always better

Well Everythings okay and I haven't even gone over the 45c mark.  and I got about an average 1FPS per 100MHz OC.  If I was a more advanced OC-er i would probably kick it higher but I'm okay with an extra 5-7FPS boost.

Awesome glad to see it working :)

Yeah Ah god It freaked me out... still does but whatevs  I went from the main entrance in The Evil Within dropping to 25 FPS to dropping to 27 but boosting up and got rid of the drop and was able to keep 30fps ... I hope to get my intel i5 in a few months...but yeah I'm just dead broke right now.

Yeah thats fair money is always a problem, also if you do want to clock higher basically just pump it up little by little and run benchmarks, eventually it'll go unstable and crash, once that happens just clock it back to the last speed that was stable (back 2 if you want to be really safe).
