gaming build for future

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

Why gigabyte over evga?

Aside from the cooler issue that I'm not going to go into because it will start the third world war, Gigabyte uses higher binned GPU chips in their cards, as well as a PCB with better VRM and power phase design, allowing for higher overclocks and better reliability.

I'm wanting to build a purely gaming pc. I believe this mobo has good headroom to upgrade things later. All coments/tips will be appreciated. I'm trying to get off cheap for now, but want to have room to grow for later. My goal is to play games at decent quality. Can anyone shed light on what this setup can can't do. I'm a noob.

It can't overclock, making the aftermarket cooler less of a necessity, giving you only quieter operation.

And the obvious logical upgrade step in the future would be adding another 970, so you might want to bump the PSU to 600-650W so that you wouldn't have to replace that.

If you're looking for headroom to upgrade then get a G3258 now, and get the unlocked Broadwell i5 when it comes out. Also get a Gigabyte 970 over the EVGA ones, and a Seasonic G 650W for some SLI headroom.

Will any games not play with 2 cores?

No game will "not" play with 2 cores, but some games that can use more then 2 cores will be bottlenecked by the CPU, like Battlefield 3/4 and Crysis 3. They will still be perfectly playable though

My "full proof" plan for the future is to get an M.2 SSD, when a decent priced and decent sized one becomes available. I'm not necessarily wanting an SSD and M.2, so a hybrid for now is my way of cheaping out. When a good quality 5th generation k 1150 comes out and I can afford it, I'll be upgrading. These upgrades might be a year or more down the road during that waiting time I want to play games. Being a noob, I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm trying to guess at things I know nothing about. I'm picking this mother board because it's cheaper than an Asus vii hero, it still has the 5th generation upgrade feature and OC potential. I'm gullible, marketing gimmicks work like Jedi mind tricks on me, but I think I want Sonic Radar.
