If you are getting a new psu, skip corsair go with the best power supply on the market for cheaper. That would be the evga supernova g2 750 or 850. Although you wouldn't need anywhere near 850W so get the 750 for about $40 less and you end up with the highest quality gold rated unit you can get.

Yep, I have 2 780s in my 860w, and it's all running perfectly, with 970s it's even better.

Yes plenty, but don't get an RM850, get an EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W.

I wouldn't bother with a 850w psu for a 970 sli.. A good 750w is already more than enough.
