How to hook up my stereo speakers to my PC?

Zaku77

So I recently got myself an actual desk setup with a monitor and what not. This is great and all, but it means that I'm no longer hooked up to my receiver and surround sound. I'm using some old--albeit surprisingly high quality--desktop speakers, but I'm looking for more. I have four fairly good sized stereo speakers sitting here not being used. The thing is, I have absolutely no idea how in the hell I could hook them up to my PC. I have included a link to a picture I took of my MOBO's manual, which shows all of my connectivity options that are available. What is my best bet to get these hooked up properly?

Thanks!IMAG1024.jpg

Are the speakers powered(they have an cord that plugs into a wall outlet)? They may require a reciever to actually power them. Your PC cant output that much power for any decent volume

They are not powered. They just have the red/black wire connectors.

If they use RCA, then you can get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter. I use one and it's great

Thats not gonna work mate. You'll need some sort of amplifier (For example a stereo) that has those clamp connectors and some auxillary outlet (usually something like cinch to 3.5mm) with which you can connect it to the pc.

Then you will not be able to run them directly from your PC. You don't happen to have an old receiver laying in a closet that you could use, do you?

Damn. I might actually be able to get the old one that I used to use back from a friend of mine. I'll look into that and update the thread if I get something like that worked out. Thanks for the help.

If you do, and if the receiver you get supports it, then think about getting an SPDIF connector (your mobo supports it)
