I3s are locked because if I3's could OC then they would kill the market for I5's

hm, I don't think so because all i3's are duel core though

majority of i5 sales are in custom gaming rigs. an i3k would be about the price of a reasonable i5. when overclocked it would perform much better in games. it would also not be far behind the i5k, and for the extra 70-80€, people would rather save those and put them into a motherboard ;) so yes, an i3k would cannibalise the i5* sales

i3s don't feature unlocked multipliers. However you can usually do a couple hundred MHz on the base clock.

 

However back on LGA1156 you didn't use multiplier to overclock.
