what does a nuc come with?

just wondering as i might get one, put osx on it then use it for chilling, music production and homework/bit of light gaming.

Nothing, unless you get a kit that specifies that it does.

You need to source your own HDD, RAM and sometimes the wireless module.
Some are also lacking a power brick.

You will need RAM and an (mSATA iirc) SSD to get it working. A mini PCIe wireless card will also be needed if you don't use ethernet.

I have a 2 year old Zotac Zbox and I'm running win 8.1 for media consumption and I would never try to work on it (music, photo or video creation) unless the new versions are really fast enough, read a review of the exact model you're going to buy and figure out if it can handle everything you want it to

Depends what you're going to use it for but at a quick glance and a $700 price tag, I'd think it's pretty over priced.

I still probably wouldn't. At $650 that's still a huge chunk of money.
Why do you want a NUC? It should be closer to $350 to make it make sense. You can build a decent PC for $650, with a much stronger GPU.

Easily, at least as far as I could tell. Minecraft isn't an intensive game.

For comparison I have an ultrabook with HD4000 graphics, and I play Diablo 3 perfectly fine, as well as a few older games. SC2, etc.

Not sure I don't play it.

Basically intensive games, not so much. Maybe with a BRIX, but by the time you've bought that, you might as well have bought a small desktop PC.
