Hey folks, relevantly new here *wave*

My current graph card's fans are dying a painfully loud and slow death and it also can't run "next-gen" games as well as I'd like anymore, so I'm looking for an upgrade.

The problem is that my system is rather old as well so I came to ask if it's worth it at all, or should I just save up and buy a new system altogether?

Current rig is:
LGA1155 socket motherboard with an i5 2500 inside (from what I know, about the best processor I could get for an LGA 1155)

12GB DDR3 1333 Mhz ram

Gigabyte GTX 465 1GB vram

What GPU could I get that would not be (too badly?) bottlenecked by that processor? Or would it just not be worth it?

Thanks in advance for any info.

On the side note, what were they thinking putting those fans on an angle? No wonder they're dying.

You could really get about anything and you would be fine.

In gaming, the 2500 at stock speeds is still able to keep up with pretty much any high end single GPU. If you can wait for stock then wait for some 970s to come back in stock and get one.

Go broke and sli 980s ^^

If you want the top of the line, go with the 980, if you want the most bang for your buck go for the 970. You could also waiy and see how the 390 and 390x, or whatever, from AMd will hold up.

Don't know wether or not dual gpus will be bottlenecked however.

A 970, or if you don't want to wait for them to be in stock most everywhere, look at a 780 or maybe even dual 780's.

970 or cheap 780. You cpu will be far from a bottleneck. Definitely wait a gen or two for there to be a 6 core i5. Because I think they are on the horizon.
