The performance increase will be huge by going with the 4790K over the 4690K.

I do loads of gaming, now and then video editing and 3d rendering.

then the i5 4690k if you have z97 4670k if z87 an dif you dont want to overclock or http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31231v3    it is basically a i7 4770 without the i gpu

When you say now and then... you mean like once a week?

I'd grab a 4690k. No reason to go i7 to be honest unless it's a time is money scenario.

But this Xeon don't overclock right ? Higher clock frequency will give him marginal performance boost in gaming and in rendering.

The old days where more then i5 and 2 GB VRAM video cards was useless ended a long time ago. (For gaming)

How is a i7 the best for gaming? The i5 4690k is the best if your purely gaming. HT doesn't make a big difference in games, it does in CPU intensive games. By the time HT will be supported in games, the i7 4790k will probably be outdated.

Actual mainstream i7 shows benefits in gaming already.

I'm afraid you are 100% wrong here, the performance difference is nothing or very minimal

except for multithreaded worloads and the fact that i7's are genrallly better binned chips

It is technically the best. Higher clock speed/more threads. It's just are you willing to spend the money on it.

Correct not many games Benifit from HT but some do. Bf4/watch dogs/crysis 3. You will mostly still be GPU bound however.

Still the i5 4690k would be the better choice for gaming(IMO)
