I am pretty sure that I want a computer related job and I am debating what I should major in, computer engineering or computer science. Is one harder? Does one require specific knowledge or an advanced course like calculus? Is one degree known to be easier to get a job with? (i know some answers might vary on a collage) I was leaning towards engineering because i have always like hardware and building stuff but i am not sure if it is harder/requires more. I know that you might be thinking that i should be discussing this with a guidance counselor but trust me, i have tried and its a long story.

Go with what you enjoy the most... they're both challenging and will both require a lot of math, beyond typical calculus.

yea thanks a lot, i read that and i did help a little. Unfortunately my guidance councilor led me in the wrong path by having me take Algebra 1 my freshman year  :(. For some reason i am a lot better at geometry than algebra if that means anything. I have the option to take AP computer science next year by replacing pre-calculus and trigonometry since i am taking the required computer programming intro class this year (I am a junior in HS).

You've got plenty of time... in the mean time, do a bit of everything.  Jealous you have the opportunity to do anything CS related in high school, definitely didn't have those options when I was in high school.

Yea I know i was surprised when i heard my school offered computer science because it is a relatively small private school that usually has a lot less options than public schools. i was just debating if its better to take thank pre-calc and trig. i was hoping to do some interning in the mean time to get experience.

They are both connected. Doesn't honestly matter which you do first.

Internships will be hard until you get a tighter grasp on a wide variety of topics.

isn't computer engineering equally as math intensive?

No, its not.

I'm currently a CS major, and the difference between CE and CS majors is that I have to take many more 300/400 level math courses (proof/logic type) as well as the full calc sequence. CE majors dont need to take nearly as many of those proof/logic classes.

The thing is its either AP computer science or pre-calc and trig

Really? I'd go with Math then.

Don't worry about credits...if you major in either you'll have plenty of credits.

Java is nice and easy.

Most science degrees require at least Calculus 3. The difference between Computer Science and Computer Engineer is Coding/Logic and Physic/Logic.

I'm guessing that would be calculus 1 in high school and 2 and 3 in collage right? i dont think i can take AP calculus (the only option at my school)

Computer Science is focused on programming and software engineering.

Computer science is a really wide modul, it can range from IO to Artificial Intelligence to OS design to everything

It basically what the tin says, Computers mixed with science. It is highly theoretical until the practical application and testing

Computer Engineering is both software and hardware.

It is more about designing Computer Systems, so multiple computers working together to a single goal, like in a powerplant

It uses the computers as a platform, but it does not extensively revolving around it. It is just a tool. Of course, design and programming will be there

Electronics Engineering is just hardware (not to be confused with electrical engineering)

It is about designing the hardware, PCB designing components, programming, testing, designing.. that is my favourite subject, although I am pretty biased

but take these as a guide.

There are open days at unis, where they showcase everything, and there are students and teachers who will help you out.

go to as many as possible, as courses can slightly or largely differ from uni to uni

Ohh, and bring your parents. I was at an open day alone, and I did not asked many question, that would be raised later on.

here in UK everyone brings them, so it is not awkward :)

How many years do you have until uni? where do you live?
