so the power it uses is around 150w and when i calculated how much power i use its around 300w w/ a gpu, cpu, fans and hdd/ssd's. but it is recommended that you get above a 550w power supply for that card. i dont understand if that card will still work with my 500w psu or i should go and upgrade sooner than later. do you guys think the card can work on a 500w psu or should i go upgrade?

Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

i would get something like a 650 or 750w if you ever want to SLI, but for just the sungle GPU get at least 450/550 and make sure its a good power supply.

It's basically the manufacturer overestimating to cover themselves from complaints since not all PSUs are built the same. My theory is they are compensating for really crappy PSUs that don't deliver the advertised rating so they give a liberal number when it comes to wattage recommendations.

If a Titan can work on a high end 550w unit, a quality 500w unit has no problem powering a GTX 970.

I wouldn't worry of upgrading that unit unless you plan to SLI later. But for a single GTX 970, you're fine.

i dont plan on SLI, i just thought it be pointless that i just saved for something. but have to spend a fraction of that money on something else in order to make that other something work .
