Hey everyone, I'm planning on building my own gaming pc and I need you guys to see if the parts I have picked are good enough. But before I start:

1.) If you guys think it is overkill, I know. (If it isn't.....shame on me)

2.) Please only suggest stuff that you think is equal or better in performance/appearance/quality/etc., but cheaper (or more expensive, not too expensive).

3.) Red and black color scheme.

4.) Please don't hate, this is my first time building a pc.

Here are the parts that I have in mind so far:

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/7nqdJx

I did not include the graphics card because I already bought one, MSI Radeon R9 290. Also for the case fans, I'll be buying Corsair SP 120 and AF 140 fans. I'm probably going to be buying Windows 8.1, unless it's possible to move my entire current hard drive to the new one, though it's probably not advisable.

For the CPU, I'm not entirely sure if I should get i5-4690k or the i7-4790k, need help deciding on that one.

If you guys know other RAMs that are 2400 CL9 (or better) that are cheaper/ good price, feel free to suggest.

For the storage, I'm putting the hard drives on RAID 1 and the SSDs on RAID 0. One question though, where would I put stuff, like the OS and Steam? SSD or HDD

I'm not sure if the power supply is enough, if it isn't just tell me. If you guys have know other ones that are better, just say it.

Also, I'm not sure if I should buy an internal optical drive (for games that can be downloaded through disks) or just buy an external one.

If I forgot anything just mention it, because I probably missed some (or a lot). Also, if I posted on the wrong forum, I apologize.

So yeah, I think that's all. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I almost forgot

Not too bad. There's a New Builds and Planning thread, I'd have posted there ;)
Welcome to the forum!

Do you really need Raid 1 for the data drives? I'd consider getting a Caviar Blue instead of the Red.

You'll likely see similar day to day performance with a 256gb Samsung 850...and it'll be cheaper.

You can get away with a lower wattage power supply, 650w should be plenty.

I'm a "better safe than sorry" kind of person. How much faster are SSDs in RAID compared to ones that are not? Linus said it is (I think) but I'm not sure if it's actually worth it. And for the power supply, 750w?  :D

Yeah 750w would be good. Look into the EVGA unit though, usually it's a fair bit cheaper and they're excellent units.

I know they're not the same drives, but they're still Samsung's, and I found this was worth a read.

you could definitely go with cheaper ram. there really is no real benefit for a gaming pc to having ddr3 ram that is faster than 1600mhz

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

That last part caught my attention. What are AVI captures? Is it like recording in-game footage? If it is, then yeah, I'm also going to be doing that.

Some games do benefit from faster RAM but it's a limited number

not worth the extra $60 for what would be very minimal gains imo

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

Parts update. I just bought the H105 and Maximus VII Hero today. The stuff on the list are the ones I still need to buy.

I need help picking memory though. G.Skil, Corsair CL9 or CL8?

I chose the AX860 because I'm planning on Crossfiring my graphics and adding monitors later, and just a bit of headroom for other stuff, but if you guys have other suggestions, just say it.
