So I know they're popular, I constantly see (when it comes to 2TB and under) the WD drives always have better reviews and seem to perform better.

However, I've heard a lot about the WD Black drives that are 3TB or more having higher failure rates anndddd...the Green drives are simply just too slow for my taste.

(Which brings me to my point of "WD Why the heck don't you make the Blue drive have more than 1TB!?)

Anyways, mini rant aside, what do you guys think? Experiences with Seagate? Good, bad, etc?

Thanks.

Good, but I've had some Seagates die in my NAS but WD drives have never died on me.

Yeah, that's what I hear, they tend to die more than WD drives.

Well I have a WD Black 2TB and it's plenty fast for what I need it for and the only problem with it is that something software wide made the whole disk RAW.

I personally have had bad expense with seagate even just resently i had a problem with the drive and they said i would have to pay 500$ to get the data off.im acualy a data recovery expert (you know my job) so i just did it myself but the point is is that i was still under warranty and the where acting like i wassent. and ive had tons of other bad experiences with them. the only drives i realy on are WD and HITACHI.

BTW im not alone.

Read the comments on this vid for even more people who have bad experiences with them.

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

That's nice buddy.

You can find just as many about WD (btw I have a velociraptor)

I've had 5 more WD drives on me than I have seagate drives. And I've used about the same amount of each. But I'm not so blatantly stupid that I think that means that WD is less reliable. I am an incredibly small sample size. Hell 100 drives would still be an incredibly small sample size.

Hard Drives aren't exactly a new tech. Most of the people still around are just fine.

Hard Drives aren't exactly a new tech. Only the good brands are still around. They are a bit hard to screw up.

Toshiba does the screwing up quite well.

I've had good luck with Seagate, but I also have only used lower capacity drives though(1Tb and below). The higher capacity drives have a higher failure rate since there is more room for failure(this goes with all higher end PC parts though). Most HDD failures are caused by shipping, so if possible buy from a local parts store.(I bought a HDD from Newegg and it sounded like broken glass when it arrived. Then again, 100% of everything I have purchase from Newegg has arrived broken, soo...)

As for laptop drives, I only recommend Seagate and HGST. I've had too many 2.5" WD Blacks fail on me, and the Blues are too slow to recommend.

WD Laptop drives are not bad, while the blues provide great speed if you purchase a 7200rpm model. HGST are the best for laptop.

While Toshiba ones just explode if you try to move the laptop.

Not nearly as much as people say. They are actually fine nowadays. You see, the internet likes to exaggerate things.

Never have seen those articles.

I just have repaired about 10 laptops, all with failing Toshiba HDDs. My dads MacBook pro has a Toshiba HDD and it is terribly slow and clicks and creaks all the time.

While the computers at my school with Toshiba HDDs are really loud and fail quite often.

Our PS3 (THe 80GB) model was equipped with a HGST and has not failed.

You are a VERY tiny sample size. Almost irrelevant.

Toshiba had a few bad batches a few years back, but are fine nowadays.

Seagate also had bad batches. So has WD. OH and so has hitachi. 2-4 years ago nobody EVER recommended buying a hitachi drive, they are still recovering from that.

I would just stick with WD.

If you want a HDD that you can run for 1800000000000 years, then Hitachi.

I like that amount of time. That's a nice amount of time.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Two Seagate 3 TB drives and no issues thus far.  Knock on wood.

I also have to say I am happy to give Seagate my money instead of Western Digital because Western Digital continues to have prices like their still having losses from flooding from ages ago now.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I have no bias, preference, or fanboyism when it comes to Hard Drives. If it works, and works reliably, i'll buy it.

Seagate just so happens to do it slightly cheaper most of the time.

I have three Barracuda drives in my current system 2x 2TB, 1x 1TB, as well as a 3TB external drive (Seagate Expansion)

I also have Six Barracudas in RAID 5 in my NAS, been running solid for about four years now without a drive failure.

I have had Seagate drives fail on me.

I have also had WD drives fail on me.

Toshiba can be added to that list as well, as can Hitachi.

This is why we have redundancy.

No mechanical drive is perfect... it's not a matter of "if", but "when" it will fail.

Currently gambling with my 3TB seagate drive which is loaded with all my downloads. I believe it was some sort of electronics issue. seagate support never got back to me so I have to use it until I get money for another hard drive or a NAS
