Is the Core i7 4790K considered more cosumer or enthusiast?

I know that it's not an extreme edition processor but I see a lot of enthusiasts pretty excited about it.

Consumer, but its on the high end.....so, only people who really need the power (heavy users) will/should be buying it.

Aww man dangit!  I shouldn't have it but I do.  My bad.  I just play games and love having super awesome processors that are still affordable. I really do plan to OC it when I get my new system set up.

It falls in the category of mainstream/enthusiast. Not quite enough for enthusiast but too much for the mainstream user. It would be Pentium/I3 = casual, I3/I5 = Casual/Mainstream, I5/I7 = Mainstream/Enthusiast and X99/X79 is straight up Enthusiast except for the I7-3820k (That's basically just an I7 3770k with a semi-unlocked multiplier)

Intel says its consumer grade. I say anyone with a balanced 4790k based gaming system is an enthusiast though

If you like having super awesome processors that are still relatively affordable look at the I7-5820k. About $50-60 more but you get 2 extra cores. X99 motherboards and DDR4 RAM still a bit expensive though

Eh? "Consumer" or "enthusiast" are just useless marketing labels. To me, an enthusiast is someone who knows enough about the hardware to make the judgement to use a "consumer" component when its the right choice. The i7-4790K is tough to beat, and holds its own against Haswell-E chips in most applications.

Can you elaborate on the comparison of the 3820k and the 3770k?

Yeah X99 pushes it out of affordable range for me.

3820k is sandy bridge-E which was out alongside Ivy Bridge so that would be the comparison to make. Ivy Bridge-E came out later so those two were the current CPU's for the time for their respective sockets

It's more considered as a noob CPU..

This statement makes no sense at all. Care to elaborate?

It's just a number.

huehuehuehuehue

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

Probably he means "noobs" go towards it assuming it will perform far better than an i5 (in everything -- such as gaming).

Thanks for your insight.  I'll have your know I'm an austronaut, computer engineer, software engineer, rocket scientist and I have a hot model wife and make more money in a day than you will in your life.  You know, like everyone else on the internet.
