What is the best one to buy? Kingston V300, 840 EVO, or MX100? I will be getting the 250 GB version of one of these.

The V300 had a flash change and, to my understanding, no longer a great choice.

The 840 evo has some problems with ancient files, although samsung is releasing a patch. It also only applied to really old files, so it was knd of a hyped non-issue anyways.

MX100 is generally really good for the price.

I'd flip a coin for MX100 or 840 EVO.

What is your budget for a SSD?

Don't have a budget, I never look at the amount of money but more of the functionality. I buy what I need when I need it, although I do try to wait out if possible. The cost for SSDs now make them worth it so I figured why not.

So the general thought is MX100, looks like I'll be getting one of them then.

Dude, the V300 is a piece of shit now.

MX100, since the EVO requires a firmware update now (which I think I'll be getting for my EVO's).

What issues are these? Do they also affect the 850 Pro (which I intend to get myself)? :P

No. It's a firmware issue that only affects the basic 840 and the 840 Evo. It mostly likely has to do with how the controller handles the characteristics of the TLC NAND in those two models.

840 EVO

I love my 840 pro, and there will be a firmware update for the 840 evo to fix the problem that only effects real old files.

Yeah well the MX100 is cheaper, practically just as fast (under normal circumstances), and doesn't have an issue that will require a firmware update.

Go for the MX100, it's the only drive of your choices that is near perfect out the box, unlike the samsung which needs a software fix and the kingston that is now permanently crippled.

I'm not the most informed person on them, but I know the NAND in them now is terribad.

They're putting asynchronous NAND in them instead of synchronous. Sequential transfer speeds are less than half of what they were with the faster NAND.

why the hell would hey do that bottleneck a good selling product
