Nvidia SLI on AMD

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

Yes, however why you'd run 3-Way SLI on an AMD system is beyond me.

Hello everyone.

I know that if a Nvida card detects that it is in a 4x slot it will not be used in SLI but if you have an AMD motherboard with an FX CPU there is just PCI Express 2.0 support, will 3 -way SLI work? The PCI lanes will be 16 , 8, 8 and the 8x slot technically a 4x 3.0

I have just been wondering.

Sorry for my bad English.

It depends on the motherboard, if it supports tri-sli then it should work.

Why sli when using an amd apu/cpu? it will just become a bottleneck in most situations, unlike most intel cpus.

Nvidia doesn't care what gen the PCIe slot is, they only care that it's either 16x or 8x.

*ALERT: THIS MAN IS POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS, AND YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNEW THIS YOURSELF*

AMD CPUs are inadequate for 3-way SLI setups?

*ALERT HAS ENDED, CONTINUE WITH NORMAL FORUMS OPERATIONS WITH DAT SETUP DOE*

Overclocked AMD CPUs fit in very well with overclocked Fermi cards ;) Who needs a furnace when you can just turn your PC on?

If you can afford 3-way sli you can certainly afford an i5 which provides more pcie lanes, pcie 3.0, more overclocking headroom and excellent performance per watt. The FX 9590 is just not en par with any of those, even if out-of-the-box performance is better.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

You can't even run 3-way SLi in a Core i5 (LGA 1150) as there isn't enough PCI-E lanes.

You can on a AMD based board...as the 990FX chip set has a total of 42 PCI-E lanes.
