Hey guys,

So yesterday I got a new monitor and also my psu blew up.

Today I got a new psu and on the box it says there is a 6pin pci connector, and there isn't.

So now I'm using onboard graphics and a hdmi-dvi connector and my new monitor has black lines round the outside.

Really pissed off with this computer.

Is there anything I can do for the black border or is that just a hdmi thing?

Try checking in the suite that comes with the display driver... There's usually a setting for scaling I think... I forgot how it looks like on Catalyst since I'm not on my main rig right now...

Sorry about you PSU though... Was it a "Gutless Wonder"?

If the PSU doesn't come with something it advertises on the box, send it back.

And I believe the black bars is something to do with the scaling.

I have the same problem with the little tiny black border. I got it when I change my monitor and the cable.

I know a lot of places where I can get Gutless Wonders for around 5-10USD near me...

@jem.graham I'd recommend getting a PSU from a trusted brand instead of cheaping out... A bad PSU can kill your system, kill your cat, and burn your house down... You might've been lucky that the previous one didn't take out your PC wholesale when it blew up, but there's no telling what can happen... Also, cheap PSUs tend to have really bad power delivery and this can kill your parts slowly...

My psu was a Chinese thingy, not too bothered about that. Although now, yet another problem.

I try to open catalyst control center to see if there is some form of scaling settings but it wont open, it says:

Catalyst Control Center: Command Line Interface has stopping work

These are the errors given in the error send info thing box

Files that help describe the problem:

  C:\Users\Jem\AppData\Local\Temp\WER47C9.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
  C:\Users\Jem\AppData\Local\Temp\WER6059.tmp.appcompat.txt
  C:\Users\Jem\AppData\Local\Temp\WER6115.tmp.mdmp

And yes, I've just bought another cheap thing, £23 for an Ace 550w. Think I might invest in a Corsair or BeQuiet one for my next build in a couple of months

here is a good 35 pound psu http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10500kr

That's double my 18 pound Black Pug!

It looks like a really reliable PSU, you should get it.

Because he had a hard drive.

What are your full specs? If you're running on onboard graphics, I advise you to uninstall the AMD drivers and install the ones for your onboard graphics (if it's not AMD)...

Never cheap out too much on the PSU... Something at least 80+ bronze certified will be leagues better than a gutless wonder...

I have an AMD cpu, so I don't know which is which

AMD catalyst control center and AMD graphics driver are the ones for the graphics card.
