GoPro has announced an entry level camera alongside its more expensive "Black" and "Silver" counterparts today. It will retail for $130. The reduced price obviously reflects a reduction in features but not necessarily compromise as they are good specs for the price:

  • 1080p 30FPS recording
  • 720p 60FPS recording
  • 5MP stills
  • Waterproof to 40m
  • "QuikCapture" and "Superview"

Thats a really good price, considering its a GoPro :)

My thoughts exactly. I was never considering one because of the price but $130 is impulse buy territory. Even if I use it a handful of times it might be worth it.

I like the price point, hopefully it transfers to UK well too

It seems like the best solution for taking photos and videos everywhere I go(literally)

that's quite the price you have there.

GoPro will sit in their chairs watching the money roll in.

And their stock skyrocket (the casual investor says hopefully)

its £100 (£99.99) in the uk which is about $162 so not a direct price conversion but good enough for what it is

But how long is the battery life? For $20 more I can get a Contour Roam2 with minimum 3 hour battery life, and it's more aerodynamic. It'll certainly get people into the GoPro ecosystem though.

Well there's something to go on my non existant Christmas list

Great price, especially if it's around the £100 mark. It'll certainly mean more people will use their products than just lust after them as I have been, which is no harm at all for them. Just need to see how long the battery life is for it.

Contour doesn't have GoPros accessory support, nor do they have mass market appeal.

GoPro is partnering up with CAR MAKERS to have GoPro controls through the cars themselves, with data recording and the whole 9 yards.

Contour is nice, but there is a reason GoPro is kinda winning at everything. They got their claws in deep and they are the standard.

I mean, they just inked the deal to have NHL players wear their cameras and have said footage shown on national broadcasts. Contour, despite their aerodynamic design, didn't. Contour will go back down soon enough.

They may have their claws in everything, but they're not better than Contour, especially when it comes to the design.

Heck, falling on the GoPro is bloody painful.

I wish GoPro weren't the ones that got large, but that's just how things are.

What do they know of England, who only England know?
