So I see the San Disk extreme is on sale today... just upgraded to 2 GTX 970s but I figured I may as well pick up an SSD or two for storing games and programs on... I've got an 840 Evo for a boot drive but I like keeping it at high capacity and minimizing reads and writes.

You guys think it'd be a good idea, I've heard about problems involving SanDisk, longevity and performance seems to be a hit or miss, however the SanDisk Extreme 2 has quite a good rating. Think it would be better to go with a single 850 or Intel 730?

I'd go with a higher capacity cheaper drive, like the MX100. You can get a 512gb for just over $200, which should hold most of your games.

I've heard good things about the new Intel. Reliability of drives is a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a ham sandwich.

I think it's a lot better than most believe. I've had SSD's for 5 years, heavy, heavy work loads, and they have done splendidly.

Wouldn't worry about minimizing reads & writes. SSD are handling much higher write volumes than initial estimates, http://techreport.com/review/27062/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-only-two-remain-after-1-5pb.

I have used various Sandisk models in a few machines without problems. (Touch wood. :) ) If you are just storing games longevity should not be an issue as write volumes will be fairly low. As to performance issues, even slow ssd are faster than anything else.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Sandisk is very underrated brand. I've got their "Extreme 16GB flash drive" & it's a beast when it comes to speed. If I'll need to upgrade SSD in the future, it will be Sandisk SSD for sure.
