Hello everyone I am trying to install windows on to my old HDD cause I upgraded to a new SSD for main system. I want to install windows on old HDD to run a server on it, do I have to uninstall all of my old partitions or can I create a new one to install windows to? It is currently saying it cannot install to disk because disk is GPT format??

Any help would be great.

From what  can remember there is a delete option, and also format option too while in Windows Setup. If you just delete the unneeded partitions and format the remaining partition then you'll be good to go.

I have created a new partition on the Drive to save the one I want to but it is telling me that it cannot install to the disk because it is in GPT fomat?

Is there a way to get around that or do I need to delet all partitions and let windows do it?

Do you mean you are going to use the HDD as the boot drive of another system? Your Windows licence will only work on one PC at a time, so you will need two licences for two different systems.

As for GPT format, Windows only supports GPT on EFI systems. To allow you to install Windows on a non-EFI system (a system that only has a BIOS) you need to make the drive MBR, for which you will need to format it.

This should work perfectly, but you will lose the data on the drive.

The system reserve is MBR but it wont let me install to that either so is there no option but to delete all the data?

There is a feature where the previous Windows installation is moved to Windows.old in the system's partition, but if you can't install it because it's not a supported format type than it'd be easier to get another drive and move the data off the current drive, then format it and install windows, and then later on move the files back to the drive.

I formatted 200gb of un allotted space but it couldn't do that either so I think it wont acept the disk as it is but now I dont know how to proceed?

Could you take a picture of the current scenario? I'm not fully understanding and a picture would help out.

You'll need to create a new volume lol, then you'll be able to install Windows.
