Do steam game files from windows 7 work with Windows 8.1

Go to solution Solved by MoDtEc,

No problem at all

got a seperate Steam/Origin drive

Steam simply rewrites its reg-entrys and when you first start a game after reinstall itll do so as well

then everything shuld work fine again :)

Hello everyone, I'm thinking of making the upgrade to windows 8.1 from Windows 7 and I wondering if anyone knows if the steam/origin game files work cross version as I live in Australia and it would take me weeks to download my games again and it would be much easier to copy them off my hard drive to the new install. If anyone has experience in this is would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it would be any problem.  I haven't tried Win8 in ages cos I hate the UI but it should work flawlessly.

Copy the Origin Games folder to somewhere else. (If formatting the installed drive)

Same for Steamapps folder

So.. eg: C:\Games\Steam\Steamapps (Move to d:\steamapps) or wherever you'd normally backup stuff.

So then you do your WIndows...

Reinstall Steam/Origin

Start game Install (Download), give it a 30-60s (15-50Mb into it) allowance to create directories and things, pause, close steam/origin, copy those game folder files back, usually game by game at a time @ your leisure.

Restart Steam/Origin, and re-enable download after those files are back in place, should finish instantly.
