What is this thing?!?!

Go to solution Solved by miyabwah,

It's mPCI-E.

I just got a wireless AC card for my desktop and it was labled as PCIe 4x, so I thought "Ill just slide it into one of my open 16x slots".

But its sizing is all wierd! What kind of connector is this?

can that be used on desktop?

sorry for the dumb question :P

Now that I know what it is yes it looks like it. If you look on amazon http://www.amazon.com/MicroMall-Mini-PCI-E-Wireless-Antennas/dp/B005Q751BA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1411699930&sr=1-1&keywords=minipci-e+to+pci-e

The normal adapter has antenna attached.

My hope for it was to use as a direct 5ghz wifi connection to my phone for fast data transfer while I'm at my computer. However it appears the adapters have antenna on them so it will become longer range.

yes, on a select few motherboards there is an mpci-e slot which you can connect it to.

BUT, those boards aren't too abundant (not from the top of my head)

Home is where the heart my desktop is.
