Decided to finally migrate over from consoles to PC gaming and try my hand building my own. I was going to go the pre-built route, but I think this will pay off even if it's harder. Anywho, I was using the Ultimate 4K gaming video as a benchmark, but $4,000 is a bit steep. So what I'd like to know what is a good rig for 4K gaming around or just north of $3000, preferably less if doable.

Appreciate any help~!

build are great but those monitors wouldn't be great for gaming with the refresh rate and they so expensive at same time in my opinion  , personally  i would get  this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vs278qp would be better monitor for gaming with 144ghz refresh rate

I agree with this guy, though I'd probably get windows 8.1 instead of windows 7. But then again windows 8.1 vs windows 7 is pretty much preference at this point it seems...

Drop the VelociRaptor down to a 7200 RPM drive and get a bigger SSD if you are concerned about speed (but honestly if 1.25TB of space is enough for you, then scrap the hard drive and just get a 1TB 840 EVO).

yea i meant to replace it after i was finished because kinda noticed made no sense to put in such an expensive hard drive that if you sum up its price and the ssd you should almost have enough for 1tb ssd. though my logic at first for 1 250gb ssd was for os and certain programs you want to run fast. the wd hard drive which should of went with cheaper drive it just that the speed is pretty good for just other programs which you don't need an ssd for.

This. We do not have any GPUs on the market that can handle any multi monitor 4k setups. I have been gaming multi monitor for a while now and will never go back to a single. For single monitor gaming, I am sure there is a decent set of cards that will do the majority of 4K at an average FPS

Definitely don't do 4k. A 1440p monitor with a higher refresh rate would be a better idea. Scaling issues will be persistent with 4k until it becomes the standard which isn't likely to happen anytime soon considering the only people who really benefit from 4k are content creators.

Experimenting a bit for fun, especially since I'd like to push a little higher than the 3k mark or just about hit it. Anywho, is this a good build and what more needs to be added (if anything) or dropped entirely?
