Did I make the wrong choice in picking a GPU brand (model)?

You still have the EVGA stuff that you can change, don't recall the name

Kinda, AFAIK the heatpipes don't make direct contact with the GPU.

There was just a thread yesterday I think that was posted with EVGAs comment about the concerns customers have been having, should be in the Tech News and Reviews subforum.

CPU: Intel i7 8700K | CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 2x8GB | Motherboard: Asus ROG Z370-E | GPU: MSI GTX 970 | HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB & 2TB | SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB & 970 EVO M.2 500GB | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X | PSU: Silverstone Platinum Strider 1100W | Monitor: AOC i2367Fh | Headphones: ATH-M40X | Mic: Antlion ModMic 4 | Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB w/ MX Browns | Mouse: Logitech G502 HERO

If it's the case that the EVGA design of it is faulty you'll definitely get a replacement unit.

Should have waited a few more days to see what AMD is offering to compete with the 900 series from Nvidia....might be groundbreaking.

The software I'll be using requires CUDA, so I won't be able to get an AMD card :/

Makes sense I guess :P

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

This?: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/220196-evga-could-lose-out-on-quite-a-bit-of-money-due-to-trying-to-cut-costs-in-putting-together-gtx-970980-cards/page-6

It says they'll reduce the fan noise through a BIOS update. I hope that's true...

It's intentionally. Look it up on the EVGA fourms.

Yeah I think you made a mistake. EVGA might have good customer service, but so do MSI and Gigabyte, and their 900 series cards are better.

I did see there was a problem with the ACX cooler on another thread, I have a pretty terrible memory but I'm sure it had to do with the heatpipes not making direct contact.

It's not as if the ACX cooler is absolute garbage, just some flaws that don't make it as efficient.

I have one of the cards, at first I thought it was noisy, but upon further inspection it turns out it was actually my stock GPU cooler and not the GPU. The fan for me anyways is very silent, and this card is overclocked very nicely out of the box, I would not worry about it.

is the G1 or the MSI twin forzer better? Yes but probably only if you are OCing like crazy. Also in my country those two cards are $50 and $20 more expensive respectively, and so far for me there has been nothing wrong with the EVGA card.

On that same thread they mentioned that it runs 2*C hotter than the other cards.  I just hope it's not a serious issue that could make the card fail quickly.

But they cut corners while making this card. Shady fucking company if you ask me. I'll never buy another product of theirs after this.

That was probably to do with Precision X16. It had a few.... interesting issues, to say the least. For example, all the text on this forum is in the wrong font since installing it

Jacob gave confirmation they were looking into the problems regarding overvoltage and k-boost not working properly

On that same thread they mentioned that it runs 2*C hotter than the other cards.  I just hope it's not a serious issue that could make the card fail quickly.

2 degrees is not that big of a deal, it's within margin of error or ambient temps or something

Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 | Mouse: Razer Deathadder 2013 | Headphones: Sennheiser HD438s | Mousepad: Razer Goliathus Control | Monitor 1: Benq XL2430T | Monitor 2: BenQ RL2455HM

If it does fails without the contribution of physical damage made by you than you'll surely get a refund within the warranty period.

And AFAIK EVGA has a 5 year warranty if I'm not mistaken.
