If you play FPS games, then 144hz.

And a 780Ti can do 60fps @ 1440p @ultra settings in most games -- Crysis 3 and Last Light being the only exceptions (iirc)

Personally i would go with the 1440p. I like resolution over refresh rate.

Do you want a 27"+ monitor? Then go 1440p

If not, then 1080p.

Gaming: 144Hz cause it's so smooth and 1080p is good enough

Productivity: 1440p cause the extra pixels (workspace) will come in handy for applications such as the Adobe ones or 3D modelling/ video editing software for instance.

Edit; Oh and as said, don't get a 27" 1080p monitor. Anything over 24" (usually 27) you'll really want 1440p.

1080p is not enough. I just looks bad compared to higher resolutions. I would go for 1440p
