The 980 is about 20% faster.

980 is a bit faster than the 780Ti and the 970 is around the 780.

GPU Boss is unreliable AF. The GTX 980 has moar power. Just hop on the Nvidia website and compare the specs for the juicy details.

The 980 is a lot more powerful (do not use GPU Boss)

Somewhere between 20-30% more FPS in games, check out the reviews and benchmarks

970 is a partially enabled GM204, 980 is a fully enabled GM204. That's the bottom line. The 980 performs about 20% better in games, give or a take a few more percent (2-8)

Still totally worth it for 20% performance improvements

Depends on the pricing, some regions have the GTX 980 costing $300 more than the GTX 970, in which case it isn't all that worth it unless money is no object.

I'd say if you can find some of the deals I've seen where it goes for $500, only $170 - $180 more than the GTX 970, then it's truly worth it otherwise you're buying it because you want/need it and that's that.

be wary of a lot of derp-tastic benchmarks (passmark charts for example), and also any tests where the drivers have been heavily "optimized" for a cards launch. in theory a 980 should be about 20% faster than a 970, but the Cuda Core count is only a part of the equation.

This is speculation on my part, but I would guess that the load on the memory controller should be lower on the 970, allowing for slightly better memory performance under heavy load, bringing the difference between the 970 and 980 closer together under heavy load.
