Which GTX 970 is the best?

BatJoke

"Anyways, that's my opinion" I have nothing against Asus, my GTX 760 is a DirectCU II and it's great. But seeing what happened with R9 cards like the 290-290x, where they just took the DirectCU II for Nvidia and slaped it to AMD cards without correctly adapt them makes me think twice when picking an Asus card.

I don't have deep knowledge of Asus engineers, but i'm pretty sure a lot of people with faulty overheated DirectCU II R9 280X's and 290X's doesn't trust Asus anymore.

They aren't using the same DCU II coolers on the Strix 970. It's a completely new card and cooler design.

That's AMD not nvidia. Asus coolers and PCBs are absolutely beastly great for nvidia cards. Evidently apparently they are not great for AMD cards go figure LOL. I guess you would have to tailor the cooler to the card LOO.

I know, I just don't like the fact that the card is being passively cooled until the gpu gets up to 65°. Like Corsairs RM PSU's, we don't know, but time will tell. I wouldn't pick the card if there's other actively cooled solutions like EVGA ACX 2.0, MSI cooler (Twin whatever) and Gigabhte WindForce.

It's actually 60c and yes Asus warranties the card to run at that spec so ...

The MSI TF5 is also partially passively cooled. It runs fanless like the Strix until a certain temp.

There's nothing wrong with passive cooling and it works fine where and when active cooling isn't necessary.

I was between evga ftw and gigabyte g1. I went g1 because I've never had a gigabyte card. I love my dual 780 evga superclocked cards. They were quiet. I also had a good experience with my 680 lightning's and 760 hawks although the MSI cards are louder than evga acx cards. I also had dual dcuii 680s at one point and a 290x dcuii, those can also get way louder than the evga acx cards at high fan speeds. I also picked gigabyte because the looks IMO are better and the 970 acx looks a little cheap. I've had so many dcuii cards that I am sick of the Asus backplate. That's a dumb reason to not buy a card but I can stand it anymore.

I've heard great things about EVGA customer service, I would go with them. I had an MSI Card and getting a replacement could take from 2 weeks to a month.

I waited two or three weeks for my MSI replacement. I sent it in the retail box and put that inside another bigger box. I came home when I got it back and there was a 760 Hawk retail box on my porch all taped up and beat to hell with my replacement in it. I was in shock. The 290x lightning was the first MSI product I bought since that crap happened. I'm very hesitant to buy anything MSI now.

They just see it as, if the GPU isn't at this Temperature, then it doesnt need to be cooled, So why waste power cooling it

I heard bad stuff about the Strix Lineup basically because of their fan profiles. ie; to raise fan speeds past a certain point(50%), you have to manually set them or they won't ramp up when the temps get toasty. But setting them manually won't allow the fans to lower speeds either.

If this is anything to go by, that's a non-issue. It's getting 69C on Furmark without even reaching 50% fan speed.

You're and your are not the same. Neither are their, there, and they're. Defiantly and Definitely are definitely not the same. Definately and Rediculous are not words, and you should feel bad for misspelling them. If English is your first language, you don't have a learning disorder, and you get any of these wrong, you are making the entire forum slightly dumber by doing so. Please take the extra three seconds to type properly, and have a nice day.
