Dell not turning on

So I'm working on a Dell Dimension E520 and it won't boot (at all) the PSU is good everything is getting power so my guess is that power switch on the front is broke. How can I jump the power (the front panel switch is connected by a ribbon cable not the modern day plug) to see if it is actually the switch?

 

If the CPU was bad would the computer post? Because it doesn't even spin up the fans or beep or give me a yellow power light instead of green or anything.......

Anyway, look up the motherboard manual and figure out which two pins are for power and then touch the two together with a piece of metal (like a paper clip)

no but in all seriousness, the PC won't post if either the motherboard, the RAM or the CPU are dead... could still be just the switch though. If its a ribbon cable, can you see how many leads it has? Should be just two, there should be a way to jump it where it connects the the motherboard, that of course requiring some very thin wire and a pair of steady hands.

I just ran a freaking screwdriver along the pins until my old Dell fired up.

Okay so one of the pins turns the front intake fan on but as soon as I take my scewdriver off the fan turns off and the fan is the only thing turning on

Ran a screwdriver across all of them and two of them turn the fan on but nothing boots it
