I am currently using a 7950 but after now with the new 900 series cards from Nvidia I want to upgrade. I am leaning towards going all out and getting a 980 but as I only have a 650Watt PSU (full specs in my sig), I am a little concerned about the power consumption. Would I need to upgrade my PSU in tandem with the video card upgrade? Should I wait a little so that there is more data out there?

Advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated :)

Case: Corsair C70 GunMetalBlack, CPU: Intel 3570k, Mobo: Asus p8z77-v lx, CPU Cooler: BeQuiet! 650W will actually suffice.

Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The new Maxwell cards are really power efficient, you could run a 4790k and GTX980 off a (good quality) 450W PSU, assuming you weren't overclocking too much.

cards use 2 6 pin

75 W PCI lane

75 W (x 2) 6 pin

= 223 Watts.

They have that much available to them but are rated at around 165W each

Edit: For some reason I thought I said SLI in my first comment, ignore this
