Since my old System is currently dying I decided that it is time for an upgrade.

I did build my old System myself, so I have experience building a PC.

My current System is running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE on an Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 with an 600W be quiet! Straight Power power supply.

My CPU was running at 4.2 GHz stable for 2 years and I have cleaned my PC recently. Now it is running at 3.9 GHz with occasional power_state_failure bdos.

Now I have decided to replace most of my components, with a budget of 1200€ at most (I am from Germany).

I will use this PC mainly for gaming and streaming, but I do a considerable amount of video editing and 3D modeling, some audio recording and editing and I will use it sometimes for accurate Physic based simulations.

The Parts I will be keeping are:

  • CoolerMaster 690 II White Case
  • 4 HDDs and 1 SSD
  • 1 random shitty DVD burner
  • 1 Gainward GTX 770 Phantom 2GB
  • a lot of case fans

I still have not decided if it is worth upgrading my RAM to a higher speed, I currently have 8 GB 1600 MHz (not enough for my needs).

Because I still have a GTX 770 Phantom, my plan was to buy another one and run them in SLI.

I will overclock my CPU as far as possible.

After a quick look over the components available I have put together a quick n dirty list on pcpartpicker

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/tDTqNG

I am not sure if this would be a good build, or overkill, so I would be happy over some feedback and help.

Buying high speed memory is not a good choice price/performance wise.

Id say rather cut down on memory speed and maybe squeeze a second 770 into your 1200€ budget, especially as prices will likely drop tonight with the new Nvidia cards getting released.

Personal Build Project "Rained-On"

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)

There is really no need for a 2nd gpu. Wait for nvidia 900 series to release, price drop....

My personal : I'd go with a new mobo, probably MSI Gaming 5 and stick an i5 4790k on it. Everything else is super fine. Oh and i love the Be quiet! stuff :P

Well I will have to wait till next month, since that is when I am back home. So I have some time to wait for price drops. As far as I have seen during a quick search the price difference between 2400 MHz ram and 1600 MHz ram is about 20-40€ for 16 GB kits.
