Why do we censor music?

Mostly because of language use in my personal opinion... I mean, you wouldn't want to see a child swearing every three words, right?

 

Very sad. I went to a christian school for about 2 semesters in like, 4th grade. My mom forced my dad to pull me out because they were so far behind public schools it wasn't funny

When I started at that school (which was at the beginning of the school year) they were just starting on the math I had done the previous year in 3rd grade. They spent more time learning about jesus and the bible than they did learning about important useful things that matter. And then there is the school my friends little brother went to while we were in high school. They taught the kids that Dinosaurs were the result of humans having sex with demons, and not to tell their parents that they had told them this, when that news broke, his parents immediately pulled him out of school, 3 months later it comes out in the newspaper that the "principle" running the school, didn't have a license to teach, nor did most of the "teachers". They got shut down.

 

Religions should never be allowed to run schools lol. I don't mind private schools, but not one run by a religious group, because 99% of what they teach will likely be crap like that.

 That's why my gaughter will go to a private school. And because they will be expose that not mean we should shove it in their head with ads, tv and all.

You do realize not every rap song out there is as crappy as the radio right? Like seriously I can show you rap songs that probably have a better point to them then the music you currently listen to. Man, I feel sorry for your kids...trust me when I say I speak from experience the reason I went thru the gangs, and drugs in my life was because people kept me sheltered from it.

 

 

You realize that private school girls are 10 times worse? Forbidding them and closeting them away drives them to bad things, I know, I used to live in a small town with a private school in it and those girls did nothing BUT get into trouble.

 

The shorter you make the leash, the harder they will try to buck that leash, give them a medium length leash and they won't try quite as hard, and won't get into quite as much trouble.

 

The reports for my towns school show only one school in the city that was worse then us at the time I went there. The only one that was worse then ours for drugs and sex was the Christian school here in town. That being said we had the rep for the most gangs tho.

Again, the harder you try to shelter them or forbid things, the more and more they will want those things. What you should do, is expose them to things slowly, while providing a good context and frame of mind, that's what a parent does. Show and explain and provide context and information, tell them that certain things can be bad, but show them what those things are and why they can be bad, take the mystery out of it.

No i did not, I had an asshole father who never respected me enough to explain why he said no to things, beyond "because I said so". Which is the type of parent you seem to be. All I ever thought was "well he's just an asshole who says no for the hell of it", not "well he said no because he's looking out for my best interest, he even told me how he is looking out for my best interest, perhaps I better not do that thing he said not to do".

 

Because I said so, or just plain old no, makes your kids hate you. Ask any child psychologist and they will agree. When you tell a child not to touch a burner, you tell them why "because it will burn your hand and it will hurt" not "BECAUSE I SAID SO AND I'M THE PARENT" which is how the previous generation parented. You have to explain your actions, not just say no, or you look completely illogical, or like you don't know what you are talking about.

If this would have been exposed slowly I wouldn't have been in 99% of the things I was in growing up.

Sorry to break it to you dude but it seems like you have a very bad grasp on what parenting actually is. A parent is suppose to be a best friend and guide children thru life not control them in any way. People make mistakes, didn't you growing up? Did you learn from them? That's what people need to do to learn. However completely controlling what they watch or listen to is not the way to go about it. If you do that people end up hating you because you kept them sheltered.

No yeah, I do understand that. At first the education should come, that's the main thing, parent do not educate, they get rid of their kids so they can relax. I see shitty parents everyday not giving respect to their kids. They should realise that if they start talking to them like real person, with respect and consideration, they will have a much better time!

You also recently said that what I am doing is controlling, how so I just choose to guide my children (when I have them) thru life and help them were needed and let them make decisions so that way when the real world hits it wont be like I was...completely unprepared for it. My parents sheltered me alot growing up and now that I am out on my own there are things I should have known but didn't cause they sheltered me from it. Granted I hope no kid is like me and went thru the shit I have actually lived thru, but then again its what made me what I am. I have had more friends die since I started high school (now 5 years graduated) and since I've been living out on my own then I can even count....most of them were drug/shooting related. So yea I hope your kid doesn't go thru what I went tho. I got heavy into all kinds of gangs doing work for them...I know Hell's Angel's, Crips, Bloods, and most local gangs around here....so yea I hope your kid doesn't go down the road I went down. I have been held at gunpoint many times gotten into many fights and done alot of weed in my time...however its all cause my parents sheltered me. Now this is my opinion but it weighs heavily with what I had to go thru as a kid transiting into an adult.

Look, it's ok.  I get it! I had good parents and I never felt that way. I understand your reactions if that's your experience. Now, We are talking about the same thing here, at least the same way opf doing the education part.
