Hello there NoFrownClown,

I'd support Syraz statement – if only for gaming, the i5 should be enough. For most games there shouldn't be a noticeable difference in performance compared to the i7. At least so indicate most reviews that I've seen. However, the i7 should be more suitable for video recording, 3D rendering, etc. For the mobo – both the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK and ASUS Maximus VII Hero are a good choice. Besides, the price difference isn't that big... If I were you, I'd look at some online comparissons of the two if you are to decide for either.

Cheers,

Titania_WD

Of course you are having issues! You used a quad-module AMD CPU with a 4+1 phase board. Upgrade to a MA99FX. It will solve the issues. Please do not waste money and switch to Intel.

that won't solve the issue that the AMD FX CPU has very slow cores and won't perform well in gaming...

OP' something like this would be great you can SLI on this if you want and it's much faster than FX:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($224.74 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($127.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $352.72

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Sell your FX to the most offering.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
