Difference in monitor stands

defunkt

I'm looking for some studio monitor stands but I'm not really sure so far, wondering if anyone can tell a difference or has either of these.

Gear4music Studio Monitor Stands

JamStands JS-MS70

Samson MS200 (On closer inspection the base on these look a little sturdier)

Gorilla GSM-100

They look pretty much the same apart from branding, so I have no idea.

I'm kind of trusting the Samson's more as they are a big name and look a little studier.

hello

They're probably all made in the same factory in China.

I'd just pick the one that's cheapest and offers the best warranty.

I made my own using some plywood and 2x4 I had laying in the basement. Cost me $3 for a can of black paint and another $4 for screws and right angle brackets for my 2 stands. DIY is so much cheaper even if you don't have extra wood laying around.

I have a pair of those, quite sturdy but there's a problem, which may b of relevance to you:

1. Height adjustment. The lowest point they go isn't low enough for me by 2". Sounds like I'm nit-picking but...

The way to have your monitors setup to get the most from what stuff comes out of 'em, is to have the tweeter be right at or close to your ear-level. My chair doesn't go that high and my monitors are a tad tall.

Having stands instead of desk makes it difficult to make the "triangle", which is also the best way to listen to speakers...

think of an equilateral triangle kinda like this:
