7.1 headsets

Hello. i'm going to buy the Kingston Hyperx Cloud gaming headset(analog). Now the real question is that can i use virtual 7.1 surround with some program on my pc??? or do i need a soundcard to do that or can i use my motherboard. I've got an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard that has 7.1 outputs. All feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Through Software but there not that great from my experience

If the game itself doesn't have a headphone mode, then you can always try Razer Surround software. No extra hardware required.

You don't need surround to hear that stuff with headphones. We only have two ears. The reason 7.1 systems exist is because when you don't have sound projected directly into your ears sound can not be directional, in headphones surround is PURELY marketing bs.

Actually I am pretty sure even 7.1 system will be worse in most cases than just stereo for directional sound because that elaborate system would need elaborate calibration for listener to be able to sense the sound.

i second that, windows does a great job of making sournd sound with stereo headphones

The review's I've done so far, have been done without virtual surround and simply with "headphones" in-game.

Check Superlux headphones. They're awesome and have better sound that many "professional" headsets. Just get Superlux HD681 EVO and Zalman ZM-Mic1 microphone and it will be much better than any virtual 7.1 headset.

Actually the term 'virtual' in the context refers to 'simulated by software'. Headsets with virtual surround? They're all stereo headset, with 2 drivers, left and right, no difference compared to regular headphones. Any headphones, including superlux headphones can be used with virtual surround (be it 5.1 or 7.1) setting.
