Overclock troubles.

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

While on idle? That just means that it downclocks itself while you don't need its power. Run it under full stress and see if you still get variation. And when I say variation, I mean more than 100Mhz.

So I am attempting to OC for the first time. I am following the guide for the i7 4770k that Linus has and I have run  into what appears to be a problem.

The CPU clock is jumping around as though it s throttling itself even though the temp is sitting at around 40 degrees C.

I have set it to 4.4 with 1.2 volts to start with.

Specs:

Maximus Gene vi

i5 4670k

8gb Gskill Sniper 1600mhz

GTX 760

When is it "Throttling"? When idling or during a stress test?

Idle. I worked it out, it pegs at 4.4 when under full load.

Of course. The CPU does not run at all speed (Or full voltage) if it does not need to. It downclocks itself extremely hard to save power and reduce heat output.

Yep, That is what I figured thanks a bunch.
