Installing cooler without backplate

So my buddy is taking my h60 off my hands and wants me to install if for him.  He has long since lost his amd backplate for his mobo.

 

Exactly how essential to the installation is having the amd backplate?

could it be (semi)safely ghetto rigged?

 

Is there a place to get an extra backplate from?

Some Intel 775 boards didn't require a backplate because the holes are small enough for an aftermarket cooler. Mine is one of those.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

I'd say that you should try to search around on the internet for a backplate anyway, it helps to strengthen & keep the coolers retention quite firm onto the cpu socket. @Vizzion

Doubt that motherboards nowadays have small holes. Especially Intel. They enlarged the holes so they can fit a stupid stock cooler.

You could have issues with making tight enough contact between cooler and CPU. With AIO there isn't problem of cooler being too heavy.
