4770k OC Stability Test

Go to solution Solved by CowsGoRoar,

thats probably good enough you got a pretty good chip, i think linus runs stress tests for 24 hours but thats probably overkill

I've seen people run it for 72 hours. 24 hours is when people call it "100% stable". Just saying.

Anyways, you got a good chip. You won the silicon lottery. I would run for 12 hours because 24 is abuse to your PC. Stress TEST and ABUSE are different things.

I finally got my 4770k OC'ed to 4.6 GHz at 1.25v and temps have stabilized at 66* C. I've ran AIDA64 for an hour, so far no issues. How much longer should I run it? I only play BF4 and on rare occasion render a video.

Alright, I'll run get some food and will shut it off when I get back. Yeah, guess I did pretty well in the silicon lottery considering some of what I've seen.

EDIT: yeah, for my uses 24 hours is just a waste of time. But, if I was making videos like him, that's a bit different.

run different stress test now to hit every part of the CPU with instructions that differs, you should try with intel extreme tuning utility, prime95 and intel burn test run them about an hour each make sure you are on MANUAL voltages if you use anything other than intel XTU ...you can also run a couple pass of cinebench. after that you should play games and use the computer normaly, it should be stable.

The lenght of stability test depends on program. For Prime95 it's around 24-48h. For XTU I've seen 5h being said to be enough. OCCT goes for 3h or as author says, as long as you feel like it. I think LinX was also in 48h range.
