Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) I'm gonna be 18 soon ( 23 oct.) , and my parents asked what should they get me . Naturally , i wanted some pc gear , but what should i get ?? The Budget is unknown but i'd say mid-highend stuff EDIT : Current rig ( aka what i'm typing on ) PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xGfZzy CPU: Intel Core i5-2310 2.9GHz Quad-Core ProcessorCPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i 57.5 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: OEM ASUS h61 mobo Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 MemoryStorage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card Case: Corsair C70 Arctic White (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Monitor : 2x 1080p ( 1 VA & 1 IPS ) monitors Getting a new cpu and mobo would not really increase the fps in games much since the i5 doesnt really bottleneck the 760 unless playing Planetside 2 900 series nvidia is just around the corner so a 780 ti wouldn't be witty. Was thinking about one of those eBay korean 1440p monitors but i'm really afraid it will be DOA or missing some pixels. Ideas ? Bare in mind i live in Romania , where prices are about 1$---->1€+10-20% so yhea , no 5930k & x99 , gtx titan stuff . Also failed to mention im a huge nvidia fan ( would reccomend 750ti over anything better value from amd ) Ivy Bridge is the codename for the 3rd gen CPU's. A quick Google search can do that. Okay so get the 750Ti I can't help fanboys. If you want the best for value, then AMD is the choice. Romanian prices are high? Not my fault. 750Ti doesn't sound too bad. Posted September 12, 2014 happy birthday soon to be adult guy Thanks, and to you too:)Now I would definitely recommend upgrading to a newer platform, whether it's just a CPU or going straight to Haswell. If you don't feel like it, then spring for 1440p, I never even looked back after getting my Korean panel... So sharp... So many pixels... I'm that guy with the GPD Win. Ask your parents for a tech store gift card, then you can wait for the 900 series and get an even better GPU. Can you try selling your GTX 760? Then you might be able to upgrade to a new CPU and mobo.

Posted September 12, 2014 I know you said your cpu doesn't really bottleneck you, but that's what I'd go for. I'd try for a 4690k and a decent motherboard (in the $120-$160 range). I'd do this because I prefer a strong foundation before getting the flashy graphics card. Sure a 290 will increase your FPS right now, but the 760 is already a great video card. The 4690k would last you years, but a 1440 monitor might be crap in just two (seriously, 4K is getting damn cheap!). Next I'd get the graphics card and THEN the monitor. By then you could get a 4k monitor because the price would be cheap enough. And you would want to get the graphics card first so you can actually enjoy the gaming experience on it. And who knows, maybe you'll want the GTX 970. i7 4770k @ 4.6ghz | Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H | G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB | Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD | Toshiba 7200rpm 3TB | Seasonic 660W Platinum | Corsair H100i Logitech G400s | Ducky Shine III Cherry MX Brown
