I will upgrade from my athlon 64 5600+ to an i5 4690k soon (hopefully) Will I see any significant performance increase? I will also jump to 8GB of ram and a new gen amd gpu when it comes out, but thats a topic for another day

you're kidding....right???

Probably the most idiotic things i've ever seen a member on this forum say. The OP was making a genuine query about performance improvements, if you don't have anything constructive for the OP then just get lost.

Yes, you will see significant performance improvements in gaming, multi-tasking and browsing. No way of being able to say exactly how much, but it will be a pretty significant improvement.

look mate i would say about 30-40% gain in out right perfomance for cpu tasks

Gaming FPS realy depends on your gpu selection and budget

with the HD6670 gpu you aint gonna notice any difference in gaming because this is a VERY weak GPU, for other task that rely on CPU speed its gonna be day and night.

Its going to be a HUUUGE performance jump. A CPU from 2005/2006 versus something from 2013/2014. Thats a massive gap difference in the technology world.

I can confidently say it's going to be at least 2x or 3x faster.

Not much comparisons available between the two...as the 64 X2 5600+ is so much older but...

Even a FIRST generation Core i5 was easily 1.5x - 2x faster.
